    Writing to inspire

When I was younger, I was the kid who loved to read. I was not the daring kid who jumped around on rocks or climbed trees. Hell, I was the kid who stood out from everyone else because I had flat feet and couldn't wear sneakers. I was the kid wearing orthopedic shoes with a stacked heel at the age of four and five while riding my Big Wheel. I couldn't climb a fence or pull myself up onto a tree branch. There was one thing I loved. I loved being lost in my imagination. It start

    The plans fror 2018

Hey there! Happy new year. A little late here, but I spent the holidays dealing with a stomach flu at Christmas and then a nasty head cold at New Years. My wife brought home the stomach bug from her office and gave that to me, and I brought home the head cold and gave that to her. Great, huh? This is the first time I can honestly say I am glad the holiday season is over, the decorations down and we can just get back to relatively "normal" day-to-day activities. I do hope your

The depression of finishing a novel

Over the weekend I saw a 60 Minutes piece where they interviewed the legendary spy author John le Carre. I have not read any of his stuff, but I have seen some of the movies made from them. He writes the very smart, realistic, spy novels that try to put spies in the real world. Intense stuff requiring a lot of research and the exact opposite of the cartoonish (but fun) stuff that James Bond does. I love seeing how other writers do their thing, regardless of if their stuff is

When Your Own Story Scares You

So, I have finished a first draft of another novel this year. That means, in the span of less than a year, I have drafted three novels. One is currently being shopped around to literary agents (and if that fails, then to small press publishers, then maybe to Kindle Scout and, if that fails, I'll publish it myself), one is with a Beta reader and needs MAJOR help (that one may be out by end of the year) and this one. And this one scared the crap out of me. I have two Beta reade

Why Do I Write the Deklan Falls Detective Novels?

So, I take pride in being a guy who writes thrillers. If you have been to this site and visited my work before, you know I have an obsession with murderers, ghosts and alternate realities with shadow people and black-eyed children. I like scary stuff. I always have. So, you may wonder, where does the Deklan Falls hard-boiled detective series fit in and why the hell do I write them if they don't sell as well as, say, The Man From Taured or Vicious? Well, the answer is - I just

I'm Giving Away 4 Complete Horror Novels - Really

The saying goes that nothing is really for free. Well, around here, that's not true. You know that I have done many giveaways. While it is always my hope that you will download a freebie and like it to much you'll leave a rave review, it is not (and never will be) a requirement. Well, that continues. I am giving away four (4) entire, complete, unedited horror novels for FREE by visiting another page on my website. Yup. Seriously. You get four complete horror novels in a PDF f

Where Are Things Now? New Stuff

So, I am happy to announce that I have completed the first draft of my new horror novel. It is tentatively entitled S.P.I.D.A.R. and to find out why, well, you'll just have to wait to see it published. As to when that is, well, you might be waiting a while. It is off to a Beta reader now, then rewrites, then off to another Beta reader and more edits - and then I plan to shop this one around to some literary agents and maybe a few publishers, too. It is my first straight-up ho

    Slowing Down

I could probably just do this without telling you. I mean, given all of the things going on, if I slowed my pace a little on this side of the blog, you wouldn't even know it from your end. I have a new novel out with another one coming on Halloween. I am planning an audiobook version of Slender Man and have the next Deklan Falls novel with a Beta reader and rewrites coming for that for a Spring 2017 release. Like I said - you probably wouldn't even notice a slow down. However

How Do You Write a Novel

It's one of the questions that you get asked when you tell someone that you are a writer and that you write books, a lot more often than you might think. The conversation goes something like this: PERSON: So, what do you do? ME: Oh, I'm a writer. PERSON: Oh, what do you write? ME: Well, I write for a company. Website content and blog, but I also write books. PERSON (really interested now): Really? What kind of books? ME: All kinds. Horror, suspense, thrillers, mystery and det

Some Things About the New Site

So, I have had this new site up and running for a few days now. I hope you like it. I switched to this whole new platform that got me away from WordPress so that I can host it myself and, well, that's probably more than you need to know already. The bookstore is a bit different, but everything that may have liked about the old site is still here. There is one new thing, though, and that is what I would like to talk to you about. If you hang around here long enough you might s
